Custom Prompt & Reverse Engineer
Full control over your AI prompt — and a tool to extract prompts from any image.
What is Custom Prompt?
Every category in Prompt Blueprints uses a pre-built base prompt behind the scenes — you supply the subject and the system fills in the rest. The Custom category removes that layer entirely, giving you a blank canvas where you write the complete prompt yourself.
To access it, open the Generate page and select Custom from the Blueprint selector. The subject field expands into a large textarea accepting up to 3,000 characters, with a live counter in the bottom-right corner.
What you type is exactly what the AI receives — no hidden base prompt is added. The Art Style and Detail Level toolbar options still stack on top, so you can write the subject and composition and let the toolbar handle the aesthetic treatment.
Writing an Effective Prompt
A well-structured prompt describes the image in layers. You don't need to include every element — focus on what matters most for your result.
| Element | Example |
|---|---|
| Subject | A vintage travel stamp for Paris, France |
| Style | fine-line engraving style |
| Composition | centred subject, wide decorative border |
| Lighting / Mood | warm golden afternoon light |
| Colour notes | limited two-colour palette: navy and cream |
| Negative space | white background, no text |
Combining several of these elements produces the most consistent results: "A vintage travel stamp for Paris, France featuring the Eiffel Tower in fine-line engraving style, centred subject with a wide decorative border, limited two-colour palette: navy and cream."
Most effective prompts land between 100–300 characters. The 3,000-character limit exists for complex multi-element compositions — going beyond 300 characters rarely improves the output unless you're describing several distinct elements.
Quick-Start Suggestions
When a category is selected, AI-powered quick-start prompts appear below the input as clickable cards. These are pre-written starting points tailored to that category.
Clicking a card fills the prompt field with that suggestion — you can then edit it freely before generating. Up to 6 suggestions are shown at a time; the full list for a category may be larger.
Quick-start suggestions are also available in Custom mode and update based on what you've already typed.
Saving & Reusing Prompts
When you're in Custom mode and logged in, you can save any prompt to your personal library and reload it in future sessions — no copying and pasting needed.
Saving a prompt
- Type your prompt in the Your Prompt field.
- Click the Save icon (floppy disk) that appears at the bottom-left of the prompt area.
- Type a name for the prompt (max 100 characters) in the inline name field that appears.
- Press Enter or click the check button to confirm. Press Escape or the X button to cancel without saving.
Opening My Prompts
Click the My Prompts button (book icon) at the top-right of the prompt area. A dropdown panel lists all your saved prompts. Clicking a prompt in the list loads it into the prompt field instantly. The button shows a count badge when you have saved prompts.
Updating a saved prompt
If you loaded a prompt from My Prompts and want to save your edits back to the same entry, click the Save icon while the loaded prompt is still active. As long as you haven't made any edits since loading, the save overwrites the existing entry in-place rather than creating a duplicate. If you've modified the text, saving creates a new entry instead — leaving the original unchanged.
Deleting a saved prompt
Open My Prompts and click the delete icon next to the entry you want to remove. The deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
Reverse Engineer Any Image
The Reverse Engineer Any Image panel lets you upload a photo or artwork and have the AI analyse its composition, lighting, and style to generate a detailed prompt — which is then placed directly into your Your Prompt field, ready to use or refine.
Maker Pro or Studio Elite required. Free and Starter plan users can see the panel but the upload is locked. Visit the Pricing page to upgrade.
How to use it:
- Select the Custom category — the panel only appears in Custom mode.
- Click Reverse Engineer Any Image to expand the panel.
- Click the upload area and choose your image (PNG, JPEG, or WEBP, max 8 MB).
- Hit Analyse — the AI reads the image and writes a matching prompt.
- The generated prompt is inserted into the Your Prompt field automatically.
- Edit the prompt if needed, then hit Generate.
Analysis uses credit from your balance, charged at the time of analysis — separate from any subsequent generation.

AI thinking — not needed
**Composing a Description** I am now focusing on refining the description of the basket and its contents. I'm considering the weave of the basket, the colors of the yarn, and the positioning of the needles to create a more vivid image. I will include the text "name" in the final prompt as instructed.
**Developing the Details** I have broken down the composition into several elements: the basket, the yarn, the needles, and the text. I am currently concentrating on the physical attributes, such as the basket's material and the types of yarn, for a more detailed prompt.
A stylized illustration of a brown wicker basket overflowing with colorful balls of yarn and knitting needles. The basket contains purple, pink, blue, green, yellow, and red yarn balls of various textures, including smooth, fluffy, and boucle. Several metal and one wooden knitting needle protrude from the yarn. A single pink yarn ball rests on the light grey surface next to the basket. Below the basket, the word "name" is written in a black, elegant script font, enclosed within a red dashed rectangular box with a red arrow pointing to it. The background is a light grey gradient with faint, repeating text "Exclusive of image invest". The lighting is soft and even, highlighting the textures of the yarn and basket. The overall style is a warm, cozy, hand-drawn illustration with bold outlines.
Only the bottom half is needed. The AI shows its reasoning in labelled thinking blocks (**Composing a Description**, **Developing the Details**, etc.) before writing the actual prompt. Scroll past those sections and copy only the final paragraph — starting from "A stylized illustration…" — into the Your Prompt field.
Step 3 — Customise and use the prompt:
Once you have the base prompt, edit it to match your creative vision — swap details, add specific text, or simplify elements you don't need. Here's the same prompt after customisation:
A stylized illustration of a brown wicker basket overflowing with colorful balls of yarn some big and some small and 4 knitting needles. The basket contains purple, pink, blue, green, yellow, and red yarn balls of various textures, including smooth, fluffy, and boucle. Several metal and one wooden knitting needle protrude from the yarn. A single pink yarn ball rests on the light grey surface next to the basket. Below the basket, the word "Crafting is not a hobby, it's a way of life." is written in a black, elegant script font. The background is a light grey gradient with faint, repeating text about yarn, loops. The lighting is soft and even, highlighting the textures of the yarn and basket. The overall style is a warm, cozy, hand-drawn illustration with bold outlines.
In this version: the yarn count was made more varied (some big and some small), the needle count was specified (4 knitting needles), the placeholder word "name" was replaced with a real quote, and the unrelated watermark text was swapped for thematic background copy (yarn, loops). Small edits like these make the final image far more personal and accurate.
Upload Requirements
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Accepted formats | PNG, JPEG, WEBP |
| Maximum file size | 8 MB |
| Required plan | Maker Pro or Studio Elite |
If your file exceeds 8 MB, an inline error — "Image must be under 8 MB" — will appear below the upload area. Resize or compress the image using any image editor before retrying.
Tips & Best Practices
- Reverse engineer then refine —The AI-generated prompt is a starting point. Read it, tweak the subject nouns, add a colour note, or change the style before hitting Generate.
- Pair Custom with Art Style —Write your subject and composition in the prompt, then set the Art Style in the toolbar. The two combine — you get the content right and the toolbar handles the aesthetic.
- Keep prompts focused —100–300 characters is the sweet spot. Longer prompts can dilute the AI's attention. Describe one clear scene rather than listing every detail.
- Reference Image vs Reverse Engineer —A Reference Image guides the composition of a new generation. Reverse Engineer reads an existing image and produces a reusable prompt. They serve different goals and can be used together.
- Save prompts you'll reuse —Hit the Save icon any time you write a prompt worth keeping. Named saves load instantly from My Prompts — much faster than hunting through your generation history.
- Use the character counter —The counter turns amber as you approach the limit. If you're near 3,000 characters, consider splitting your idea across multiple generations rather than cramming everything into one prompt.
